It’s Already Been 6 Months?

I can’t believe my baby is 6 months – that’s half a year! That’s a long time! And yet, at the same time, it feels like the blink of an eye! Just 6 months and 2 days ago I was vehemently refusing the fact that I was in labor. I was so scared: to give birth, to have to take care of this tiny person I’d never met before! And now: I couldn’t imagine my life any differently- it’s perfect! (Ok… maybe I could imagine us with like, a million more dollars…) My days may all pass by in a blur of diaper changes, nursings and laundry; nevertheless, this is the best time ever!

Every morning I get to wake up to this person who is SO excited to see me! I peer over into his little face and his eyes light up and his mouth instantly forms into the hugest grin! For every one stress-inducing factor {waking up every two hours, anyone?} there are 5 joyful ones: smiles, cuddles, giggles, and the way he touches my face or buries his head into the side of my face. I’m not gonna lie: quite a few times over the past 6 months I have been reduced to tears; clutching my head in clawed hands, tears would squeeze out of my screwed up eyes as this little monster screamed endlessly in my lap. But just one of those smiles makes all the frustration melt away.

Every new milestone reached brings joy to my heart. Ok and I tiny bit of sadness – my baby is growing up! {sob}. Just this month he has: rolled over from his tummy to his stomach, crawled backwards, sit up unsupported, found his feet. He has started on purees and he LOVES them. He attacks the spoon like a piranha and it’s the funniest thing ever! He scarfs down sweet potato with cinnamon & vanilla, practically inhales strawberry-banana and tolerates avocado-cilantro. Yes, I have totally ignored the doctor’s instructions to “introduce fruits last”. I am so looking forward to teaching him how delicious natural, organic food can be!

This past month has been a joyous one, for sure, but it’s also been hard. Husband has been working 6 days a week, and about 70 hours. For the past month I have definitely felt like a single mom. I love taking care of little H, but it’s hard being to the only one 12 hours a day and 6 days a week. Sometimes you just need a break to poop in silence! Luckily {I mean, unluckily} husband hurt his back, so he is going to be working a LOT fewer hours. Still probably about 50 and lots of long days, but I’ll take 2 days of break every week over 1 for sure!

I can’t wait to see what H has in store for me this month!

  1. He’s getting SO big!
The first year can be so so so hard, specially if you’re home alone a good portion of the time. I hope you get a break when the hubby can give you one.
BTW that Dr. Seuss onsie is painfully cute.
